After receiving some feedback on last week’s ‘Porexia’ post I decided to write a sequel.
One reader felt I conveyed a ‘sense of hopelessness’ to women with enlarged pores. That wasn’t my intention at all.
I was primarily commenting on the issue of porexia, and while I don’t think it’s healthy to obsess about your pores, I understand it can be a deeply concerning issue.
Thankfully, there’s plenty you can do to minimise their appearance without having to resort to using harsh or toxic chemicals.
Apart from cleansing, toning and exfoliating (which I mentioned in the previous post), the next best thing to do on a regular basis is use a natural, organic face mask.
Treatment masks remove oil and dirt build-up from pores, which is essential if your pores are quite visible.
Masks containing vitamins A, B or C are best, as they help to regenerate collagen, which plumps the skin and makes pores less visible.
What’s collagen got to do with pores, you ask?
Before I explain, it helps to know exactly what a pore is. To get a bit technical, it’s the opening of the pilosebaceous unit (from the Latin pilo meaning hair and sebaceous meaning oil), which connects the hair follicle and oil-producing gland.
Pores dilate when there is excess oil and/or a lack of collagen surrounding them. Collagen supports the pore walls, keeping them tighter and smaller.
So it goes without saying that products that enhance collagen production are going to help pores appear smaller.
Clay-based masks can be a huge help too, as the clay draws impurities from the pores and absorbs excess oil.
Argiletz clay is the purest form of clay available. It comes from Argiletz, a region of France where the clay is extracted at a deep level and under strict conditions to ensure the mineral content and purity is retained. This clay is 100% natural, sun-dried and chemical-free.
Mukti Organics has 3 certified organic masks, each with active ingredients to help reduce the appearance of pores.
Our Kakadu Plum & Honey Masque contains Kakadu plum, which has been identified as the richest fruit-derived antioxidant essential to the production of collagen (to help tighten pores). This mask also contains earth minerals, green tea, marine extracts, aloe vera and honey. Yummy.
The active ingredients of our Vitamin Earth Mineral Masque include Argiletz white and pink clay, and an abundance of vitamins B, C and E for collagen renewal, plus a host of other nourishing goodies. (Note: this mask has very active ingredients and is not suitable for sensitive skin).
Go for our Buttermilk Oat & Pink Clay Masque if you have sensitive skin — it’s especially soothing after microdermabrasion. It also contains Argiletz white and pink clay, plus certified organic oats, certified organic butter milk powder; certified organic rose petals, calendula, chamomile and other delicious herbs.
While you can do a lot for your pores just by using good quality, organic skincare products at home, nothing beats having regular facials with carefully selected products designed to assist with problem pores when your skin needs extra attention.
Why not treat yourself to an early spring clean and book yourself into a Mukti salon for a rejuvenating facial?
